Deployed interactive technology to allow users of company’s web sites more personalized and interactive news content online, while expanding access from cell phones, PDAs and other wireless devices.  These innovations contributed to an increase in company’s interactive revenues of nearly 40 percent.

Directed programming of a local “entertainment and community guide” portal to replace an existing product from CitySearch at a net savings exceeding $3MM over 5 years.

Collaborated with Product Management to design, develop and implement a national online High School Sports product that yielded $1.6MM in advertising revenue in its first year of operation with a payback/ROI of 4 months.

Oversaw design and integration of a centralized video encoding engine to support new video syndication partnerships with large, national video portals (Yahoo!, MSNBC, YouTube), resulting in a 5-fold increase in the amount of local news video created by our TV affiliates and several-fold increase in video advertising views and revenue.

Innovative Leadership

Led an unprecedented effort to provide continuous, live broadcast TV coverage from company’s New Orleans website to a national audience using online video streaming during Hurricane Katrina.  Recognized by CEO for outstanding, groundbreaking achievement.

Created a means for content to be published once and shared across all of our 20+ web sites in each property’s local branding, providing significant cost savings to the enterprise while greatly increasing the amount of content available on Belo’s smallest web sites.

Application Portfolio Optimization

Migrated web applications for 16 web sites on 5 different internet hosting providers to a centralized standardized environment to recognize over $2MM in direct savings from reduced licensing and headcount expenses.

Improved performance of a major industry application such that it ran on systems one-fourth the size of our nearest competitor and recognized over $1MM savings/yr in hardware leases alone.

Business Intelligence/Analytics

Designed and implemented a Cognos based business intelligence platform to allow for development and measurement of key-performance-indicators (KPI) resulting in higher advertising rates and audience growth; this initiative contributed to the 40% year over year revenue increase of the company.

Developed programs to extract and integrate data from diverse vendor and internal applications such as online ad delivery, email delivery, user registration, and customer service (CRM) to enable analysis of customer behavior across all channels.

Technology Planning/I.T. Governance

Improved relationships with internal business partners by defining new IT governance processes with representation from all business departments, increasing visibility into technology projects and services and restoring trust.

Drove the consolidation and reorganization of the newspaper, internet and intranet application groups to a new centralized technology department, resulting in better clarity of roles and responsibilities and greater alignment of technology resources to corporate strategic goals.

Structured, negotiated and executed a number of strategic partnership agreements to improve the performance and availability of Belo’s network of web sites.

Enterprise Project Management

Chartered a multi-company, multi-discipline project team to identify and select a new enterprise web content management system for the publication of news stories across over 35 web properties, and directed in-house and outsourced development teams to extend and customize the platform.

Directed a cross-functional team for the technical architecture design and implementation of a web serving infrastructure using virtual server technologies to replace 65 aging servers for improved security, availability, serviceability, and performance.
